So along this going all natural/organic journey of mine, comes along the health and beauty part. Shampoos, Conditioners, Soaps, and one of my favorite change overs…Deodorant! Now I know what you are thinking…All natural Deodorant? Why should you change? Here are 3 reasons to convert:
Three Reasons to Change to an All Natural Deoderant
- Most Antiperspirants these days are LOADED with Aluminum, and other chemicals such as “fragrance”- and most companies write it just like that, without any insight as to what is In or USED for the “fragrance”.
Did you know that antiperspirants are classified as an “Over The Counter Drug” in the US and Canada, because it uses aluminum chloride to block your sweat glands?! Also some studies have suggested that aluminum in antiperspirants are linked to breast cancer-Because estrogen can promote the growth of both cancer and non-cancer breast cells, some scientists have suggested that using the aluminum-based compounds in antiperspirants may be a risk factor for the development of breast cancer. Even if these studies haven’t been totally confirmed…why chance it? SAVE THE BOOBIES!!!
- The second reason to convert to an all natural deodorant is so that you can allow yourself to sweat. That’s right!!! Sweating is a NATURAL body function. It is one of several effective ways to detox your body. Sweating can flush the body of substances of alcohol, cholesterol, and salt. The body releases toxins by using sweat as the conduit. Our bodies are made to do this!
Antiperspirants, form a gel-like substance that blocks your sweat ducts, preventing or reducing the amount of sweat your body produces. So let your body do what it needs to!
- Lastly, are you sick of Body Odor? Did you know that your current antiperspirant can be causing your body odor to be worse!? There are two types of bacteria in your armpits-
Corynebacteria – The type that makes you smell, and Staphlococcaceae – The least smelly bacteria. Using antiperspirant reduces the amount of staphlococcaceae bacteria (the least smelly) that grows under the arms. This creates more opportunities for odor-causing species to develop. So by swithcing over to an all natural deoderant you could be doing yourself (and your short friends) a favor!!!
Armpit Detox Before you make the switch!
So I made sure to do my research before I made the switch to All Natural deodorant and found that it is recommended to do an Armpit detox first. You’re going to want to pull all those odor causing chemicals and aluminum chloride out that have been soaking into your pores all these years. And for that you will want to use an all natural Bentonite Clay.
Bentonite clay (montmorillonite) is a mud like substance derived from volcanic ash. This clay has a unique composition and can absorb “negatively charged” toxins. People have been using calcium bentonite clay for centuries as a way to detoxify the body, improve digestion, improve skin tone, and more.
How To Use Bentonite Clay to Detox Armpits
Use a 1:1 ratio of bentonite clay & apple cider vinegar, and put it on your armpits for 15 minutes. You can repeat this weekly or biweekly for a month while your body is transitioning. This helps release toxins in a way that just plain soap in the shower can’t do.
ATTENTION: DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF METAL WHEN MIXING!!!!!
My Suggestions for what Brand of Natural Deodorant.
I have tried two different brands Schmidt & Native. Both brands have a selection of scents. I liked them all to be honest, but my favorite would be Lavender. But the brand that I am in love with is Native! It goes on so much more smoothly than the Schmidt’s. With Schmidt’s you have to hold the deodorant under your armpit and wait for it to warm up a bit before you can apply it. And well quite frankly I don’t have time in the mornings to stand around waiting for my deodorant to warm up. Also it went on pretty rough and, its very “bumpy” and I felt like I was exfoliating my armpits, which did not feel good at all.
Native like I said before goes on very smoothly, and I noticed that it did fight odor better than Schmidt’s. And worked better at keep me dry.
Thankfully you don’t have to go to a special store to buy Natural Deodorant, as most stores carry them at a decent price.
